What is a Tummy Tuck and Mommy Makeover?

Shame?

There is no denying there is a stigma around getting plastic surgery. A lot of women don’t openly talk about it if they got one, or are scared to say they are interested! However, I want you to know that it is 1000% OKAY to want a change in the way your body looks. This can be hard to navigate as a mom when our culture today is all for accepting and loving our body postpartum however it ends up looking! YES, celebrate all that your body has done for you, but remember, just because you get a TT or MM doesn’t make you any less appreciative or loving of your body.

Define it:

Let’s define these terms!

Full Tummy Tuck: sewing together the separation of your 6 pack muscles (bottom of ribcage to below belly button) + removing extra skin and pulling it taut. Can also include lipo & hernia repairs.

Mommy Makeover: tummy tuck + breast work. The procedures remove pre-existing c-section scars and your belly button (you are given a new one). You will have a new incision from hip point to hip point.

DeBunk 2 Myths

  1. Your stomach will be perfectly flat all of the time- NOPE, you’ll still bloat, have swelling maybe upwards of a year. Everyone’s bodies respond differently to the procedure- go into it with that expectation!! There is no guarantee.

  2. You’re taking the easy way out- NOPE, whether you did PT for any diastasis recti or not, it’s NOT an easy recovery, and it’s a large financial commitment.

Find a provider who is educated & supports you.

Here is why I support it and am well versed with this whole procedure, taking a specialty course for the rehab and pre-hab. A rule in my practice: never place own bias on patients. It’s YOUR body. I create a safe space to educate you about your body and support these types of conversations to help you understand pros/cons, Q&A!

For example, diastasis recti CAN be helped with PT-a big part is learning core brace strategy, but the new research shows that it is mainly cosmetic. There are no “safe exercises for diastasis”, you’re not "making it worse.” Which a lot of women’s health providers use as fear tactics to get you to buy their program..

If at the end of the day, you don’t like the way your tummy looks, extra skin, etc. let’s talk about your options! Schedule a call!
