Hunchback, tech-neck, dowager hump, oh no!

How do you get into the best posture?

The perfect posture doesn’t exist because everyone’s spine, strength, and mobility are different. However, we can strive to maintain the natural curvature of our spine! The so called “military posture” with the chest out and the shoulder’s down and back does NOT promote that natural posture. Rather, think of a dancer- neck elongated, head stacked over the shoulders, ribcage over pelvis, feet under hips-TALL!

Can I reverse my hunchback?

Also known as a Dowager’s hump. You may have one starting to form at the back of your neck likely from that forward head posture you’ve lived in the past 10 years. Good news is, you can prevent it from continuing down the road of “hunching!” Headaches are commonly tied to having this “hunch back” too!

How to address the hunchback:

Bring awareness to your body throughout the day. It’s as simple as that. If you don’t know you’re even doing it, you can’t change it! If you’re sitting at a desk, driving in a car, holding baby, take a second to reflect about your body position and think of “the dancer” I described.

Why does it matter?

Sometimes postural ailments can contribute to pain you experience because there is a lack of mobility in the joints. Second, other systems in the body were designed to operate optimally with this “dancer” posture in mind (PELVIC FLOOR.)
